What is Phase Three Center, Inc.?

Phase Three Center, Incorporated is a nonprofit organization founded in Sumter, South Carolina, to address transitional foster children and at-risk youths' varying educational and mentoring needs. We are a dynamic initiative that works to keep those we interact with from the vices that often ensnare less privileged teens and youths. Serving transitional foster care youths and at-risk teens in Sumter, South Carolina, and beyond, the organization offers an inclusive mentorship and tutoring program catered to educate the future's best and brightest.

It is our perspective that there are phases to life. When a child is born into a family unit, they are in the first phase of life. Phase two begins after placement into the foster care system, and phase three begins when they become a part of Phase Three Center. This will be a critical stage of their life. They will begin to learn valuable social and emotional skills that they did not obtain earlier. These youths and young adults will begin to live a structured life while working towards achieving their future goals. Phase Three Center, Incorporated provides complete care and attention, first-class education, and life skills activities.

What Makes Phase Three Center, Inc. so Extraordinary?

It is our understanding of the importance of social-emotional learning and its capacity to bring forth positive change in underserved communities. In addition, Phase Three Center has created mentoring and tutoring programs that support underserved kids and youths. One place that demands exposure is personalized learning, but youth miss the mark in these vital, personalized experiences that lead to academic and career success. The arc of educational development must extend beyond the classroom to reach all youth because classroom teaching is often one-sided and geared to dominant learning styles. As a result, countless children get left behind to struggle to adapt to a teaching rigor that is not complementary to their learning style.

What Does Our Initiative Address?

Our initiative addresses the varying needs of at-risk youths and transitional foster care teens underserved youth. For example, at-risk kids often experience a lack of motivation and attention to their academics, creating barriers to retaining content learned in school. Also, transitional foster children often lack social and emotional skills such as self-awareness, yet schools do not teach them how to acquire the necessary skills and tools to succeed. The organization's primary goal is to stop these vulnerable children and young adults from becoming involved with the criminal justice system, from becoming dependent on the welfare system, living on the streets or in homeless shelters, and becoming dependent on the welfare system (systems that are overburdened). It is said that the gift of knowledge is extraordinary when given selflessly and unconditionally. This, is who we are.
