HOW YOU HELP MAKE AN IMPACT AS A MENTOR

Youth mentors play a vital role in shaping the future of our society. With their guidance, support, and wisdom, mentors provide a valuable source of inspiration and encouragement for young individuals. Not only do they offer guidance in academic and career pursuits, but mentors also assist in developing crucial life skills and fostering personal growth. By building positive relationships with their mentees, mentors create safe spaces for open communication, empathy, and understanding. Through their experiences and expertise, mentors empower young people to overcome challenges, set goals, and reach their full potential. Ultimately, the presence of youth mentors inspires a sense of hope, resilience, and optimism, ensuring a brighter future for the upcoming generations.

CALL OF ACTION

Phase Three Center, Inc. seeks mentors for mentees ranging from the ages of 12-21 years old. Each child’s/young adults’ life that our mentors touch leaves an everlasting impression, for the better. We work with children that are struggling in school, having conflicts in their home lives, children that have a foot into the Juvenile Justice System, children that have been involved with the foster care system and have been left to figure things out for themselves, amongst an array of other delicate circumstances. Because we work with such an intricate population, we require our mentors to be equipped with characteristics such as: good listeners, having reasonable accessibility, willingness to educate, guide and provide constructive criticism, supportive, caring and practical.

TIME COMMITTMENT

Many of our mentees have a history of inconsistencies with the adult figures in their lives in some way shape or form, and we do not want to add to that burden. Because of this, we require that our mentors are able to provide a 6 month commitment to the mentees that they are matched with. This not only allows for the time needed in order to build trust and comfort between the mentees and their mentors, but it allows for the mentee to be able to fully grasp and incorporate the lessons that are being taught to him/her into their daily lives. Mentors should allow for a minimum of one hour per week to spend time with their mentee(s).
